Apple closes Dark Sky’s iOS app and website by the end of 2022

It was no secret that Apple would eventually shut down all of Dark Sky’s apps and web tools after acquiring the company in 2020, and it looks like there is finally a fixed deadline for the last break for the weather service. Developer David Smith and 9to5Mac has learned that Apple will close Dark Sky’s iOS app, website and API by the end of 2022. It’s a year later than originally proposed, but you’ll still plan a switch if you use the iOS app or any app based on Dark Sky’s current forecasts.

Apple closed Dark Sky’s Android app last August.

There is little doubt that Dark Sky’s technology will live on. It plays a role in iOS 1

4’s more detailed weather forecasts (although the data comes from The Weather Channel), and iOS 15 will add features like precipitation warnings in the next hour. However, the closures will not be exciting if you prefer Dark Sky as a device-independent weather tool.
