BAKERSFIELD, California (KBAK / KBFX) – Another influenza-like death is reported Friday by Kern County Public Health.
There are now eight registered deaths locally this influenza season and 22 cases of people with influenza who need to be hospitalized in the intensive care unit.
This season's flu death marks a five-year high. There were two local influenza deaths each of the previous two years.
In the 2013-14 influenza season, 11 local fluid deaths were observed, according to public health tracking.
Public health said the best way to avoid the flu is to get the vaccine, frequent hand washing and managing sick people.
