7 PSVR games we can't wait to play

Marvel's Iron Man, No Man's Sky, Falcon Age, and many more.

After Sony's first Play of Play, IGN had a chance to go hand in hand with many of the upcoming games in the PlayStation VR library that were teased during showcase. We got away impressed by the variety of experiences that allow you to travel to distant levels, take care of a falcon and let you live out of your hovering movie dreams.

Blood & Truth

Developer: Sony London Studio Release Date: May 28 [19659008] Blood & Truth is a first-person, VR-powered series of fast-paced, fast-paced vignettes that stretch to feel like a schlocky but fun-like hell b-tier action movie. If you bought a PSVR at the launch, you can recall Sony London Studios original offer "The London Heist", which was broadcast on PlayStation VR World's demo. Blood & Truth plays as a more ramped up version of the London Heist, and the demo we played this week promises to be just a little bit of a much bigger game when it launches to PSVR in late May.

& Truth is a first person shooter. You run across the rooftops, running down thugs, blowing open doors with explosives, taking a warehouse full of criminals, and surviving a quick ticket to name a few. In typical VR mode, however, it is not just the hectic, video-game-like things that are super fun to perform; VR also manages to make seemingly everyday things such as picking a lock, opening a car's glove box or merge a clipboard across the room quite interesting too. One of my favorite moments in the demo was sitting shotgun beside my in-game partner and firing at evil guys as we drove and jammed, like a kind of vintage buddy movie. It made me want a whole PSVR game centered around two friends on a road trip.

The controls were tight, mostly. Goals and shootings felt good, like recharging my gun (by moving to push a clip from my left hand into the gun bottom in my right hand) as well as punishing, pushing through the players' increasingly chaotic sets and holstering my weapons when things were calming down. Only when I ended up driving a gun and a machine gun during a high speed car crash – and then struggling to reload both pistols without freehand – it became a bit tricky, but it was probably my own fault to be ambitious.

I'm not sure how long the final version of the game will be, but a two-three-hour movie length story would be perfect here, especially if the players were nudged to play the campaign to improve their score and neighbor collectibles . We probably know, but in the meantime I'm really happy that PSVR continues to get big, brave exclusive products like Blood & Truth, these many years in its life cycle. – Brian Altano

Concrete Genie

Developer: PixelOpus Release Date: Autumn 2019

Awarded only a few days ago in the first Play of Play, Sony's upcoming artistic adventure will let players actually try their hand in a VR mode that includes both a guided experience and a free paint.

Protected with a notebook that serves as a palette and a magic wand, I painted a beautifully hilly landscape with beautiful but crooked trees and dotted stars throughout the sky as a genius guided me together in one of the VR mode campaign levels. As one who can't draw more than one stick figure and a bad one, I feared that I would be bad in the Beta Genius VR mode, but by giving players specific things to paint and a world that smartly interprets the player's movements for real-world design I was happy with my work.

There is certainly a certain limit to what each element can produce in the world, but I have totally enjoyed the freedom I had in populating a clearing with trees, a fire, and plants that would swing in the wind. Wrist shifts can bend and shape trees, while the brush's swirl and flick can send a breeze brushing through the grass, blowing petals out of flowers, much to the joy of the genius that accompanies you.

I'm excited to see more of the work you can do in this VR mode and if the limitations needed to make each player feel they are doing something beautiful can hold back with the ability to express oneself. It is a smart translation of what Concrete Genie's most important non-VR campaign is trying to do with art and expression. But first of all, the VR state of Concrete Genie set itself apart because of how peaceful an experience it gave. In the midst of a loud, busy preview event, I painted in a comfortable, peaceful and calming environment – something not too many games trying or can do, but I appreciated how well Concrete Genie took it off.

Everybody's Golf VR

Developer: Clap Hanz, Sony Japan Studio Release Date: May 21

As the name suggests, the non-VR versions of Everybody's Golf offer a colorful, casual and accessible take on a sport that has lots of entry barriers in real life. In Everybody's Golf VR is the same basic experience there, but the addition of VR and motion control undermines the title a bit as they are not for everyone. After a couple of exercises swings with a Move controller and a bit of coaching from a dev, I eventually ended up hitting the ball properly.

The game does not really want you to swing a golf club in full force, which is probably for the best, as it asks for a lamp that gets knocked over, but it will have a little more oomph than you might need, While carrying what is really an expensive high-tech blindfold. That said, with a little practice I could see it being a really relaxing time.

Being in VR improves the most common details and features like being able to see the wind direction or getting a bird's eye view of the course seems magical. Fortunately, for the weak-hearted or the weak-stomached, the relaxed pace of golf is highly suited to virtual reality. Everybody's Golf VR may not be for everyone, but Developer Clap Hanz has put all the golf games on Sony hardware for twenty years, so it's in safe hands, the word game is calculated. – Max Scoville

Falcon Age

To be a recent pet owner himself, it was initially difficult to play Falcon Age. Not because of problems with the game, but because I was immediately attached to my falcon companion and having to pull needles out of the mid-fight made my heart hurt me more than I expected.

But Falcon Age is a lot more than a falcon caring simulator. Yes, it's so great to give your birb a skateboard or a top hat, but there is a deeper layer of exploration and struggle than I expected. I played a bit of the game, trying to overcome an output from the robot rule, which requires a bit of crooked and exciting battle. Outerloop Games has beautifully tied your falcon to battle, so I had to strategically undermine certain enemies, or disable certain machines so my falcon could swing in and help save the day. (Outerloop has included an opportunity to allow players to completely ignore battle, and let players explore the world without having to engage if it is not interesting to them.)

The strategy involved that turned out to be fun to work my way through, systematically unleash a place with land and also to really enjoy knocking hell out of a couple of robots. (Your character is armed with a weapon that doubles as an electric whip and a club while your bird primarily acts as an attack).

I really enjoyed my little time with the Falcon Age, and I can't wait to see how Outerloop's exploration of colonization and bird care plays beyond the boundaries of my demo. I got away particularly impressed with Outerloop's commitment to letting players choose how they would play beyond the match / no match. The full experience can be played in or out of VR, and in VR, additions such as the ability to teleport while you move, but also angle your vision every time you land, are welcome to an already exciting adventure. Marvel's Iron Man VR

If you are familiar with the available VR headsets, you will feel right at home. Well behind my back to grip, then pull out that my multi-tool felt good, and the shooting felt even better. Immediately I ran up to a range of rocks and started spraying them wildly. About halfway through my wild shooting I decided to turn my gun sideways, killed shot style and was happy to see my on-screen weapon doing the same. With my left hand I was instructed to grab the controller to melee the resources. Not only did it seem to work well, but I also began instinctively to think rocks while still blowing them with the multi tool to harvest even faster, as I was told that no one in their development studio had yet tried. Trover saves the universe

Developer: Squamch Games Release Date: May 31

Although Rick & Morty co-creator Justin Roiland has been closely involved in a number of virtual realities games, Trover Saves the Universe is the first title to be fully developed by his study, Squanch Games, and it feels the most ambitious and deliberate for VR.

Unlike Accounting + and Rick & Morty: Virtual Rickality, both of which were First Person VR Experiences, Trover Saves The Universe is also a first and third person game. You, the PSVR headset wearer, exist in the game as someone tied to a chair holding a controller and you are with Trover, a purple humanoid that you can move around in the environment thanks to the "power" babies " he has filled his eyes.

Other VR games like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Moss have played with the idea of ​​the player's head acting as a separate entity than the player's character, but Trover Saves The Universe really pushes the envelope.
