5.9 magnitude earthquake near the California-Nevada border, felt in the Bay Area



SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) – A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck south of Lake Tahoe near the California-Nevada border Thursday afternoon.

For the next 25 minutes, there were at least eight aftershocks near the epicenter near Markleeville, a small community near the state line.

The arrears ranged from 3.0 to 4.2.

Caltrans reported that it responded to several reports of landslides on U.S. 395 and State Route 89 in northern Mono County after the quake.

Governor Gavin Newsom’s office and Cal OES say they are monitoring the quake, but there have been no reports of injuries right now.
