San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke to the media to give a few injury updates on Monday. Shanahan said the tight end of Jordan Reed has a knee sprain and will go on the short-term injured reserve. When Reed returned to the game Sunday, he sustained an MCL injury. Shanahan said Reed’s return schedule is between six and eight weeks.
Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), George Kittle (knee) and Raheem Mostert (knee) will all be evaluated during Wednesday’s practice. Shanahan also mentioned that K’Waun Williams had hip problems, so he will also be assessed.
Shanahan said linebacker Mark Nzeochoa injured his quad and is likely heading for the short-term injured reserve. He added that the team would decide whether Dee Ford, who has a knee and a neck injury, would place the injured reserve over the next few days. The 49ers also do not expect to have Dre Greenlaw struggling with a thigh contusion next Sunday against the Eagles.
Deebo Samuel trains on Wednesday. Shanahan said Samuel has made great progress over the past two weeks and Deebo is pumped to practice and play, but warned that it would be the first time since February, so the 49ers will be careful and make sure that Samuel is in play form before he sees the field.
Shanahan said he spoke with Kyle Nelson, who struggled to apparently each of his snaps Sunday against the Giants, and the team will bring long snappers on Tuesday and figure out what to do on the position going forward. Kyle said Nelson apologized to him and Shanahan said, “luckily it didn̵
Shanahan is unsure if Garoppolo will fit this Sunday. He said Jimmy G looked better than he did at this point last week, but he will assess the injury as the week continues.
