Christmas came late for a Brooklyn, NY, truck driver who picked up his winnings Friday for the second-largest Powerball jackpot in the New York Lottery history.
But David Johnson, 56, who won the December 26 draw for the $ 298.3 million jackpot, does not seem to mind.
"I can't even eat. I start and can't finish my food," said Johnson Fox 5 New York. "I'm happy with happiness inside."
Johnson said he wanted to buy a "nice house" and plans to enjoy early retirement, the station reported.
TO POWERBALL WINNERS REPORTED FOR $ 688M JACKPOT, 4th LARGE IN US HISTORY
Johnson chose to claim his winnings as a lump sum of about $ 1
The lucky winner bought his ticket for $ 5 and did not realize that he won until two days later on his way to work, the New York WABC TV reported.
"One of my friends, a next business driver, called me and said" Hey Dave! "Someone won Powerball at the gas station," Johnson said. "I turned to myself, I said," Oh, I'm not a man. It's not my happiness. ""
But his friend called him the second time to check, and the rest is history.
