The Mercedes-Benz CLS 450 4MATIC from 2022 arrives with an update that gives the coupe-inspired sedan an updated look and fine-tuned technology. Sales in the US will begin in early 2022 and the company is not discussing prices yet.
The 2022 CLS now comes as standard with the AMG Line styling package on the outside, which contains various side frames and bits of glossy black cladding. The sedan carries a revised front bumper with a more fluid design to the inlets of the lower fascia, and the front splitter is now chrome. The tweaked grille gets a three-dimensional Mercedes-Benz star pattern with a chrome-glass surface. The LED headlights are clear in the outer corner rather than being yellow on the current model. On the back there are chrome, trapezoidal exhaust tips. A simulated diffuser runs between the tubes.
Starling Blue Metallic is now an exterior paint color. There are also new five-twin-spoke and multi-spoke designs available for 19-inch wheels. The 20-inch pieces get color options of triple gray or high-gloss black.
Inside, the 2022 CLS has a tweaked steering wheel with capacitive sensors to control the vehicle’s functions, and it has a Nappa leather upholstery. Buyers have the expanded trim choices of Open Pore Brown Walnut and High-Gloss Gray Wood. Two-tone Neva Gray / Magma Gray and Sienna Brown / Black are new leather cover choices.
The CLS 450 gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six with an integrated starter-generator mild hybrid system. The internal combustion engine produces 362 horsepower (270 kilowatts) and 369 pound-feet (500 Newton-meters). The starter generator can contribute up to 21 hp (16 kW) and a torque of 250 Nm (250 Nm). The driveline runs through a nine-speed automatic to a four-wheel drive system.
Mercedes’ announcement of the changes only addressed the CLS 450 4MATIC. On the question of other varieties told the company Motor1.com: “For facelift, the 2022 CLS is available in the United States exclusively as the CLS 450 4MATIC.”
