It happened to happen and it looks like the ball is already rolling … the 1
9 black families who raised their money to start their own city may soon be reality TV stars as well.
Sources of direct knowledge tell TMZ … leaders from what will hopefully one day be known as Freedom, GA, have been bombarded in the last few days by a host of inquiries from production companies looking to get their stories, lives and mission on camera.
We get to know the two women who started the idea – Renee Walters and Ashley Scott – has put an end to these discussions, and it sounds like they (along with several other members of their community) are down to get started … and soon.
Our sources say that the production companies that have reached out have solid reps in the industry and have worked with similar A&E, Oxygen, Lifetime, HGTV and other large networks that run programming on just this type of thing … family, improvement of the home, etc.
Here’s the kicker … we’re told people are working on it bring Freedom, GA into use come in with some of their own terms – namely, they will own this content and the rights behind it, not to mention control over how it is edited and sent to the masses.
Our sources say Walters, Scott and co. feel it is important to influence how they are portrayed because they really do not want this to be slimy and full of cheap tensions – but instead have it uplifting while putting black people in a positive light.
And as far as story lines … there is a LOT. Scott works in real estate and home renovation – while balancing family life – and Walters does the same while working in the community with special needs. In addition, there are 15 other families who are willing to participate … 2 have opted out.
In other words, it’s literally a deep well of potential content … that could run into the coming seasons if they hit the right deal. Wonderful things provide wonderful opportunities.
